Diabetes During Pregnancy

Diabetes during pregnancy is known as gestational diabetes, a condition which causes the increase in blood sugar and can affect pregnancy and the health of the baby during pregnancy.

In gestational diabetes blood sugar usually will return to normal as soon as pregnant women giving birth.
But generally it's a risk of type 2 diabetes after pregnancy.
This condition is believed to be because the hormone is secreted by the placenta for fetal growth may hinder the work of insulin in the body cells of pregnant women.

This leads to insulin resistance, ie the cells in the body of pregnant women having difficulty to use insulin. These conditions explain the importance of check ups and routine blood tests during pregnancy. Blood tests are performed to help detect gestational diabetes and risk.
