It is estimated that 80 to 90 percent of women will experience yeast infection at one point in their lives. Fungal infections are caused by a fungus known as candida albicans. Yeast infections are usually characterized by itching and burning in the vaginal area and a thick whitish discharge.
Yeast infections are usually treated with OTC or prescription antifungal cream like but there are some other ways to treat yeast infections naturally. One of the most common method is with vinegar. Combine 1 teaspoon of vinegar in 1 quart warm water and used as a wash to restore the natural balance of the vagina.
Hydrogen peroxide can also be used to make a wash to treat yeast infections. Add 2 cups of hydrogen peroxide to a quart of warm water. An alternative to this method is to add a few cups of hydrogen peroxide to the bath water and soak. It is important to remember that the vagina is self cleaning. Once the yeast infection has cleared, it does not need to do it regularly.
Lemon juice can cure a yeast infection, helps restore the acid level in the vagina. Add a teaspoon or two of lemon juice to the water bath.
Use yogurt to win the battle against yeast infections. Yogurt contains healthy bacteria that may be useful in fighting infections. Dip a tampon in plain yogurt and insert into the vagina. Replace 2 to 3 times a day. An alternative to using a tampon is to place the yogurt on the pad and worn, replace as needed.
